Yup. I definitely, definitely know this feeling. It really is the absolute worst. I've had it a few times in my life and I hate it.
Some people are good at management. Some people are good at sales. Some people are good at accounting. I'm good at writing. There's not really a professional role for that anymore. Hence Substack.
Such an evocative piece of writing! And sadly also very relatable haha! But sometimes, quitting that job is the best decision to make, though it takes a lot of courage to do it.
You should write for yourself anyway, the reader will work it out if they're invested in the words. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to your next piece!
My pleasure! Your words are worth investing in! When I was a masters student we had a lecture from Lemn Sissay and he was very inspiring, telling us that our words are beautiful and meaningful because they come from within. Ah I won't do it justice trying to retell it here but suffice to say it was a very empowering lecture on the importance of writing, and that we all have something to say and should not be afraid of sharing it!
Geez my uni had lectures on how journalists will be gutted out of money and work in the next decade (to an auditorium of journalism students) hahah. Thank you for sharing Lemn Sissay's words, which are much more encouraging
Another really powerful piece, Carole!! Amazing writing. Relatable feelings and inspiring/empowering conclusion. Congrats ✊
Thank you so much Kevin, that's so kind of you! (I just finished reading your piece on AI, great points on the value of Humanities to, well, humanity)

Thank you! I'm glad it resonated with you, which feels weird to say considering the awful feeling I evocated haha
Such imagery that evokes hunger to be alive. Thanks for pouring your soul into this, and sharing a relatable inner journey.
Thank you Hans, as always! I'm glad you found parts of your own journey in my words

I was afraid it was a bit too cryptic, then I remembered my readers are probably smarter than me anyways haha.
It takes so much courage it took me 5 years to gather it

Thank you so much! It is such an honour to have people invested in my words

Haha yeah most of the time we were told there's no money in writing. Lemn was a rare voice of inspiration!
